When to go
Edinburgh is a destination for the whole year. During the summer months there are many events and festivals. The weather is unpredictable as throughout the UK even in summer. In winter you will find brief snowfall and rainfall during the whole year. The summer temperature ranges from 15-22 degrees C and winter from 1-7 degrees C.

How to get
To Edinburgh can be reached by plane, train or car depending on the starting point of your trip. Edinburgh Airport is 11 km away from the center of town. To go to the center there is a bus every 15 minutes and taxi (not recommended because it is expensive).

Historical information
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland since 1437 and the second largest city. The name of the city comes from vrythoniko Din Eidyn (Fort Edin), also referred to in a poem of 600 AD called Y Gododdin. After the siege by the British, was renamed in Edinburgh. Edinburgh is often called the "Athens of the North" for many reasons. A first comparison between the two cities revealed that they had the same topography as the Old Town of Edinburgh corresponded with the Acropolis in Athens. Sights
On top of an extinct volcano, Edinburgh Castle dominates almost 800 years and is a national idol and is the most popular attraction in the country.
You should not miss the two magnificent neoclassical buildings of the 19th century to house the National Gallery of Scotland. Hosts masterpieces of Titian, El Greco, Rubens, Raphael and others.
Going down the hill to the castle there is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, one of the "homes" of the royal family. The 'Royal Mile', the road that runs through the Old City, is a veritable open-air museum with historical background buildings and the Cathedral of St. Giles.

 
Within walking distance (1.5 km away) from the center of Edinburgh extends the Royal Botanic Garden is an oasis where thousands of species of plants.


The Calton hill offers panoramic views of the city.

Worth a visit to Rosslyn Chapel (11 km out of town), which became known from the "Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown and is closely linked with the legend of the Holy Grail. Every year it is visited by millions of visitors.

Transportation
Edinburgh is well worth the "walk" to feel its beauty. Nevertheless, there is an organized network of buses and streets constantly moving taxi. The Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station Edinburgh connects with the main cities of Great Britain, while the airport is 30 minutes from downtown (www.edinburghairport.com).

Festival
To the Edinburgh International Festival and the Fringe Festival held every August together millions of people from every corner of the Earth for a month full of music, dance, drama and surprises.
